picking at the carrion

‘picking at the carrion’ was a project which consisted of David creating ten miniature sculptures from acetate strips, printed with lines from his poetry collection ‘Contained’, and Lizzy responding to them in ten blocks of text. The sculptures resemble boards of both nautical knots and pinned butterflies.

For the podcast episode we recorded David reading the texts and reversed recordings of Lizzy reading the loops of text from the acetate strips. These readings were set against a soundscape of homemade sound effects, including a salad spinner EQ’d in various distorted ways.

To accompany the podcast episode we created an artbook as well as a more affordable paperback book, containing the texts and photos of the sculptures, in pairs. The artbook consisted of ten loose leaf prints, inside a handmade cover.
